Launch Brings War-time to Reading
War-time Britain comes to Reading on Thursday, September 25,
when Waterstones hosts the launch of Six Spoons of Sugar, the story of a London lad evacuated to Berkshire just before Hitler’s troops
marched on Poland in September 1939.
Clocks will be turned back
to the summer of 1944 and the Broad Street store will be decked out as
if the enemy is at the door. Members of
the Queen’s Regiment, fresh from the front line, GI’s from the 101st Airborne,
shortly to parachute into Normandy, plus our own faithful Home
Guard, will be on duty to see guests come to no harm!

Richard Holdsworth, author of Six Spoons of
Sugar (the allocation under Rationing) will be on hand to sign copies of the
book while re-enactors perform songs of the time and show the way to do the
jive.
